No New Folders?

When you want to create a new folder the user would normally right click where they want the new folder placed, select New and then Folder.  A new folder appears.  What happens when that feature doesn’t work?  The problem occurred because the feature to create a new folder became corrupt or the profile is corrupt.

There are a couple of solutions to try.

First, click on Start, and type regedit in the Search Bar.  Go to the following key:  HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\New\                   Make sure the default value is:  {D969A300-E7FF-11d0-A93B-00A0C90F2719}

If the problem persists, then try creating a new user, (with administrative privileges).  Go to the Control Panel, Users and select to Create a New User, (Profile).  Once created, Log Off the current user and Logon to the new one.  Go to the Explorer and move all the data to the new profile.  Once complete, go back to the Control Panel/Users and delete the “old” profile.  The option to save data appears.  (Saving the data here will make sure you did not miss any significant information).   We typically save the data, however, if you suspect a bug caused this issue you may want to delete any remaining data you did not copy or move over.

Finally, run scans using our Maintenance Package, or your own anti-viral software.

Document Security, (MS Word 2010)

At home or at the office there may be certain documents you want to secure from prying eyes.  You may not want to create several levels of passwords to access the documents, just the few or the one.  To secure a single document you must decide what level of security you desire.

You can restrict editing, access or make it read only.  To do so, open the document you want to secure.  Click on File and then click the Permissions button.  There you will be able to choose what type of security is best for your document.
