No New Folders?

When you want to create a new folder the user would normally right click where they want the new folder placed, select New and then Folder.  A new folder appears.  What happens when that feature doesn’t work?  The problem occurred because the feature to create a new folder became corrupt or the profile is corrupt.

There are a couple of solutions to try.

First, click on Start, and type regedit in the Search Bar.  Go to the following key:  HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\New\                   Make sure the default value is:  {D969A300-E7FF-11d0-A93B-00A0C90F2719}

If the problem persists, then try creating a new user, (with administrative privileges).  Go to the Control Panel, Users and select to Create a New User, (Profile).  Once created, Log Off the current user and Logon to the new one.  Go to the Explorer and move all the data to the new profile.  Once complete, go back to the Control Panel/Users and delete the “old” profile.  The option to save data appears.  (Saving the data here will make sure you did not miss any significant information).   We typically save the data, however, if you suspect a bug caused this issue you may want to delete any remaining data you did not copy or move over.

Finally, run scans using our Maintenance Package, or your own anti-viral software.
