Issue: When you try to open QB you get the error message: “The file you specified cannot be opened.”
This is due to a recent payroll update that went wrong.
1) To resolve, close QB by either repeatedly clicking OK or using the Task Manager to End Task.
2) Type QuickBooks in the Search window, find your version and open As Administrator. Right click the icon and select that option. If it opens fully, run the payroll update again by clicking on the Employees menu option at the top. Then select Get Updates.
If QB does not open change the security permissions of the program. Find the exe file, right click on it and then click Properties. Next, click on the Security tab and Add Everyone. Click the check boxes under that and click Apply and OK. Try again.
If the above fails, you will need to find your data file, create a copy and store it in another location and then uninstall and reinstall the program.
