Quickbooks Update issue

January 19, 2026

Every once in a while when you open QB it requests an update. You click to do so and at some point during the installation of the updates, the process seems to freeze. It stays at that point for a very long time.

The issue has to do with Windows Defender, (other anti-virus software may cause the same issue). You will need to disable the utility to have the update complete. To disable the Windows Defender, open the Windows Security program. Click on the left side option for Virus & threat protection. In the section for Virus & threat protection settings, click Manage settings.

At this point toggle off Real-time protection. You can click off other options as well. Remember how to get back to this point so you can turn on Real-time protection after the update is complete.
